So basically you get a very good link between your machine and the test server as their both connected to INEX directly.

The other test using VisualWare's speed test actually runs from a server in the USA, so it has to run the test over a contented connection across the atlantic (Dark Fibra Ring). Since you leaving the "local" network (ie. Ireland) your going across the Atlantic on the same link that all other ISP's use, therefore the connection and slow speed is related to this link and not your Net1 link as such.

Sppedtest.net

NET1 (You) ---- INEX ---- Speedtest Server

NEt1 (You) ---- C&W Link --- Atlantic Link ---- Internet ---- VisualWare Server

So as you can see its all about the distance, sppedtest is good to verify your actally wireless link through Net1 is running at the speed it should.

another good link is http://www.net1.ie/speed

Hope this helps, Let me know,

IrishLad

I have to compete with my brother who uses P2P stuff on the same connection but even with that I find it very usable. The only problem occurs sometimes when he's left his downloads on and it slows the net phone connected on my desk. (He'll be getting his own place soon [I hope!] so I'll have the bandwidth to myself finally!)

Spoke to the eircom man in Clogherhead and he was pretty amazing really, but not in a good way. Wanted to know all about my current connection etc but was not forthcoming about their own contention ratios, data transfer limits and so on. As far as I can see the only crowd who compete on service, like for like, are Smart as they have their own fibre optic network - but not in Clogherhead of course. I told the eircom man to go away and not to come back till he could offer something better than I already have. I have a dislike of cold-calling salesmen at the best of times but when they know less than me it just gets infuriating.

Maybe I'm just getting cranky in my old age.

But in terms and conditions of Net1 contract there is no information that there is a P2P limitation to broadband use in any way.
Could you tell me if it's only my settings problem or is there more into it, please?
Regards.
